A Tea Set for a Burns Supper

"And there's a hand, my trusty fiere!
And gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak' a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne."

Royal Albert Brigadoon Tea SetHappy New Year dear readers! If you're looking for another excuse to keep the party season going then they don't come any better than a Burns Supper. Gather your good friends and family together and celebrate the life and works of the legendary Scottish poet Robert Burns with a feast of haggis and neeps on January 25th. This date is reputed to be the bard's birthday, or thereabouts. Whether you're having a traditional recital of poetry and prose with a glass or two of finest Scotch whisky or a raving party with plenty of song you're sure to have a wonderful time.

thistle pattern teacup setIn keeping with the Scottish theme we have a vintage Royal Albert Brigadoon pattern tea set which is just perfect for your Burn's party. It's beautifully decorated with soft pastel pink and blue thistle flowers. These are commonly found in the Highlands, Islands and Lowlands and the thistle is of course, the national emblem of Scotland. How authentic!

Brigadoon jug and sugar bowlThe cake plate is ideal for presenting the piping hot haggis. No Burns Supper is complete without one. At the time of taking the photograph unfortunately my fridge was missing a haggis so I baked a Victoria Sponge instead. Treachery you may shout! Oh but it's equally elegant for serving nice cups of tea and slices of cake.

"For auld lang syne!"
